A message from Ric:
From humble beginnings, I discovered the ability to entertain. My role model was William Shatner as Captain Kirk. On the play ground, as my school chums and I played out various Start Trek scenarios, I was always picked to play Captain Kirk. In high school, I was chosen “Most Likely To Appear In A Star Trek Film”. Something, to this day, I hope to achieve—although I realize the chances of acting along side my idol are, unlike his waistline, very slim.
In recent years, Mr. Shatner and I have had a bit of a falling out over a half-hearted Tweeting event. When he found out I was following George Takei, Bill freaked because I refused to unfollow George and I kept reposting his tweets and Facebook posts. I’ve tried to explain, but the rift between Bill and George is too deep.
I have tried to emulate Mr. Shatner’s acting style throughout my acting career, wishing I could have convinced him to mentor me. I am particularly proud of my role as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. Attention…must-be-paid!
As for the how and why I got into radio and stayed these now twenty-six years; the bridge of the Enterprise has a lot of control consoles with a lot of brightly lit buttons. The air console looks like something you might find on the Enterprise, so I feel like I’m on a space ship when I’m in the studio and I get to punch a bunch of buttons.
I am proud to be a part of BOB-FM, dishing up the Big Breakfast. As an actor, I have had a lot of experience in cafes and restaurants. I’d love to take your order anytime. Just e-mail, ric@wbpefm.com . And Bill, if you’re reading this, all is forgiven and forgotten. Nichelle and I were clearly never meant to be.
